The Miami Police Foundation was established in 2025 to answer a clear and growing need: the gap between what the City of Miami can fund and what world-class policing requires.
Across the country, the most effective police agencies have long benefited from independent, private philanthropic partners. The Atlanta Police Foundation has supported the Atlanta Police Department for more than two decades. The New York City Police Foundation has helped power the NYPD since 1971.
Similar foundations stand behind departments in Kansas City, Milwaukee, and dozens of other cities.
Miami deserved one too.
We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded with the support of civic leaders, philanthropists, and the City of Miami Police Department itself. We are not part of the police department, we exist to support it.
Even in our founding year, our work has been meaningful. We have established a K-9 Veterinary Care Fund, supported officers and families in the aftermath of a critical incident, hosted community dinners that brought officers and Miami residents together, recognized the dispatchers who keep every call safe, and stood with the City of Miami Police Department at its National Police Week Memorial.
There is so much more to do. The opportunity ahead is to build something that strengthens the men and women of the Miami Police Department for generations to come. It is one of the most meaningful investments our city can make. We invite you to join us.
The over 1,500 sworn members of our police force are relentlessly committed to ensuring that the citizens of Miami are not deprived of their fundamental right to feel safe in their neighborhoods. Of equal importance is the safety and wellbeing of those who choose our municipality, the largest in Miami-Dade County.
The Miami Police Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are not a department of city government, and we are not part of the City of Miami Police Department.We work in close partnership with MPD leadership to identify the investments that will most strengthen the department, but our decisions, governance, and finances are independent. This structure protects donor trust, ensures accountability, and allows the Foundation to move with the speed and flexibility that municipal budgets cannot.
